Kerala Beef Roast- Beef Masala- Varattiyathu

Kerala Beef Roast is a traditional and authentic nadan recipe. This beef roast recipe that packs with a tasty punch. Its goes well with rice, appam, ghee rice, porotta, chappathi etc. This is a simple and very easy delicious beef roast. This is an all time favorite of christians in Kerala. I got so many request from my viewers, especially one of my friend Mr Ajith Antony, to share beef roast recipes. Beef curry cooked in Kerala style by blending it with spices and masalas, the rich spice flavor and aroma is really tempting.  This traditional/ nadan style curry taught to me by my Amma/ Mother, she is really excellent cook in non-veg.  Here’s the recipe with step by step cooking pictures follows.

How to Make Kerala Beef Roast- Beef Masala- Varattiyathu

Chop beef into cube pieces and wash it very well. Allow it to drain, keep it in a strainer for 15 mins. Then marinate beef pieces with turmeric powder, kashmiri chilly powder, corriander powder, salt, pepper powder and vinegar.  Keep it aside for 30 mins. Transfer to a pressure cooker and add 1.5 cups water, pressure cook till its done.

Heat oil in a deep bottom pan. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds, allow it to splutter. Add  chopped  ginger and garlic, saute it till raw smell goes on.

Add chopped onions and peeled shallots and fry it till onion turn color. Add Curry leaves and green chillies, mix well.

Now add in chopped tomatoes and combine well until tomatoes turn mushy.


Add in cooked beef and garam masala powder, combine well for 5 mins in a medium ow flame. Adjust salt at this level. 


Now add the thick coconut milk and mix well. After adding coconut milk, off flame do not allow to boil.


Close the pot with a lid and keep it rest for 15 minutes. Serve it along with rice, poratta etc.
