Fish eggs, also known as roe, are an incredible food rich in micronutrients and omega-3 fatty acids. And fermented cod liver oil, they are actually tasty, either plain or as an ingredient in all kinds of recipes. Roe can come from all different kinds of fish. While true roe or hard roe only comes from female fish.
This spicy fish eggs masala fry recipe is one of my family favorite. This recipe is really very easy to make and taste really good. Bread, roti or rice is food with this recipe or you can also serve it as appetizer or a evening snack.
How to Make Fish Egg Masala Fry- Kerala style Roe Masala Fry
Wash fish egg carefully, be careful not to tear the skin, as they are very soft.Pat dry and keep it aside.
Add 1/4 turmeric powder, 1/2 tbsp chilli powder, 1/4 tsp pepper powder, salt and lemon juice. Mix the ingredients along with the fish egg and marinate it for 1 hour.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and allow it to splutter. Then add in onions, saute it until it turns soft and translucent.
Add in ginger, garlic paste and saute it for a minute.
Add chopped tomato, stir and saute until tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
Add remaining chilly powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and garam masala powder. Saute it until raw smell disappears.
When oil comes out from masala, add marinated fish eggs.Add 1/2 cup water, cover it with a lid and cook for 2 minutes. Adjust salt at this level.
Flip the other side carefully and cook it for 2 more minutes. Add in curry leaves and cover the pan and cook in low flame for 5 more minutes. Ready to serve.
