Pazham pori- Ethakka Appam- Banana Fritters using wheat flour, is a traditional Kerala style evening snack. It is prepared using very ripe banana coated with all purpose flour and deep fried in oil. Here I have used wheat flour for making this delicious evening snack, wheat flour is much more healthier. The detailed recipe with step by step cooking pictures follows.

Pazham pori holds a special place in the cuisine of Kerala. It is easily available in every restaurants and road side foods stalls in Kerala. For making the perfect and tasty pazham pori, you have to use very ripe banana’s. The ripe banana is sliced very thinly and are dipped in a flour batter and deep fried to get a crispy coating out side and softly cooked inside. Try it out this easy recipe for a perfect banana fritters.

How to Make Pazham pori- Ethakka Appam- Banana Fritters using wheat flour

Mix the wheat flour, sugar, turmeric powder, baking powder, salt and water in a wide bowl. Blend it thoroughly to form a semi thick batter, batter should not be watery or too much thick.

Peel the bananas and slice them length wise into half and then slice each halfway into 2 to get thin slices. If it is too long then slice them into half. Set aside.


Dip the banana slices in batter and evenly coat them. In a deep bottom frying pan heat oil. When oil is hot enough, add the batter coated banana sliced and fry them until they become golden brown.


Remove them from oil and drain out the oil and serve hot.
