Thani Nadan Konju- Chemmeen Ozhichu Curry- Swadcuisine Special Prawns Curry with Gravy

Hope you all had a great christmas!! Today am posting the recipe of Thani nadan konju- chemmeen ozhichu curry. It is an old traditional dish of my family, used to cook by grandma. Those days of my childhood, I enjoyed this curry along with steamed rice and very loved curry by all at my home. This was a regular curry at home and I used to called this yellow prawns curry. It has subtle flavors and is a very authentic recipe of my grandma. Do give it a try along with steamed rice, the detailed recipe with step by step cooking pictures follows.


It is easy to prepare and has large amount of nutritive values. Ground coconut paste are added to this curry in order to make it even tastier. Even though prawns are costly, you will crave to eat this curry more and more, once you had. There are plenty of ways in which prawn coconut curries are made and this recipe is really amazing. Tips-  The prawns should be fresh, frozen prawns do not taste good with this curry. Adjust the water content accordingly, this is a gravy dish. Add more green chili if a more spicy dish is desired. Fresh grated coconut is used for this curry, kindly use fresh coconut for better taste.


How to Make Thani Nadan Konju- Chemmeen Ozhichu Curry- Swadcuisine Special Prawns Curry with Gravy

Clean and wash prawns well in running water.

Grind coconut along with 4 tbsp water, kashmiri chilly powder, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, shallots, coriander powder and fenugreek seeds. Ground to fine paste and set aside.

Heat a clay pot with coconut oil and add onions and saute until onions becomes soft. Cook in medium flame with regular stirring for 3-4 minutes or until onions becomes slightly golden.

Add green chilies, ginger and garlic, saute until raw smell goes on.

Add ground coconut paste and mix well. Simmer for 2-3 minutes in slow flame.

Add tamarind water and warm water. Allow the gravy to boil.

Add salt and curry leaves. Combine well and let it boil for few seconds.


Add cleaned prawns and stir gently, cook in medium flame until prawns gets cooked around 7-10 minutes, do stir in between. Off the flame and drizzle 1 tsp coconut oil in top.
