Prawns are a favorite in my home, after all they taste good in any form. I had posted many recipes using prawns which are quick and easy. This is a well loved dish in my family. Hope you enjoy this delicious prawns pulao recipe as much as my family do. I always like one pot meals, specially rice dishes such as pulao, biriyani, fried rice and other rice varieties that can be served with or without a side dish.

Prawns Pulao Easy One pot Recipe

Tips- Adding the prawns stock cubes will give an extra flavor to prawns pulao. If you want you can even skip this and add prawns alone. If u want to make prawns stock at home boil 2 cups of water with prawns head and shells for 10 mins and reduce to 1 cup. Strain out the extract and prawns stock is ready. You can use this stock for this recipe. Prawns stock makes the pulao rich, healthier and adds more flavors in it. You can increase or decrease the number of green chilies according to your hot level. This pulao can also be prepared in a pressure cooker or rice cooker.

Peel the skin of prawns, keep the tail and de-vein them. Wash well with salt in running water and drain out completely. Wash and soak the rice for 20 mins, drain out the rice and set aside.

Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan. Maintain a medium flame and add cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom, peppercorns, bay leaves and star anise. Saute for few minutes until a nice aroma arrives. Then add cashew nuts and saute nicely.

Then add garlic and ginger paste, saute well until raw smell diminishes.

Add sliced onions and green chilies. Saute until onions are brown and soft, maintain a medium flame.

Add chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves. Saute until tomatoes are soft and tender.

Then add in prawns cubes, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Saute until raw smell goes on. 


 Add prawns, mix gently and combine well. 


Then pour boiling water and mix well. Generally the ratio is if 1 cup rice then 2 cups water. After a salt check only add salt, because prawns cubes are already salted.


Finally add rice and stir all of them well.

Cover the pan with a lid and cook the rice until it is done and water content completely evaporates. Off the flame, allow it to rest for 10 minutes, then garnish with corriander leaves and  serve along with raita and pappad.
