Ghee cake is a super soft, aromatic and moist cake prepared with ghee and other cake ingredients. It is so easy to prepare and one of the delicious and melt in mouth cake that I love baking. In this cake the butter is replaced with ghee and that makes it awesome. In Kerala bakery this cake is very popular and ever since I tasted this cake has been my favorite. From my childhood days I have been in love with this cake. I have been searching the recipe from long and at last I got this recipe from my hubby’s friend who is a bakery owner. My kids are my constant inspiration of my baking recipes especially this one. Cakes is one of the favorite choice of my kids, they both loves this cake very much. By serving this special cake can make the party wonderful and can enjoy with family, friends and relatives. It can be used as a tea time snack or nalumani palaharam/ 4’0 clock snack.

Tips- Baking time may vary depending on the oven, mine was done in 35- 40 minutes. so adjust it accordingly. All ingredients should be in the room temperature. In the recipe, powdered sugar is highly recommended. Sieve the flour 3 times, it is necessary to get a nice texture.

Seperate egg whites and egg yolks carefully, set aside. 


In a bowl add all purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Combine well.

Swift together the flour 3 times in a sieve and set aside. 


In a large mixing bowl beat together ghee and powdered sugar with an electric beater on medium speed until fluffy and light.

Then add egg yolks, two at a time. Beat well after each inclusion.

Than add in alternately flour and milk to ghee mixture and fold it very gently with a spatula.

Set aside and lets beat egg whites. 


Beat egg whites along with vanilla essence.

Pour egg whitte mixture into the prepared batter and fold it gently. Do not over mix the batter.

Pour this batter into a well-greased cake tin.

Bake in a preheated oven of 180 degree C for 40-45 minutes or until a wooden tooth pick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

  2. ThIs looks really tasty- I’ve never made cake and wouldn’t mind starting with this one. Is there a substitute for sugar or a less sweet version of this recipe?
